all the paint on the front was off like it is when i bought it, havent put any dents in it yet, my lil bro did, slid sideways at 50 on a icey road and hit a tree in an orchard, we got stuck for 2 hrs .ahh good times. it will be restored, when i get another job. i put hella cash into my car when i have one. so far idk, maybe, $3k - $4k, and it still runs like crap and its not that nice. _________________ Towed amaro, 2nd engine blown spent $1500 not spending more. i keep track of all my mods, maintinence, and stuff in a spreadsheet so i can see when i did things. for example on the v6 car when the distributor cap decided to fall apart i was thinking "WTF i just got that 6 months ago..." found the recipt... it had been almost 2 years. i was WAY off.
i think john is right though, most of us would rather not know. |

@ Tony - You're right. I don't want to know. I keep thinking about how many cars I could have bought with that maitinence money.
@ Danked - Dude. Seriously. I've had cars go to the scrap heap with less dirt than that on them. Buy a $7 bottle of Turtle Wax. Your girlfriend might actually consider taking a ride with you. |

and all kidding aside, you could probly make it look ALOT better for very cheap by just rattlecanning the damage to the front bumper and such the right color, shouldn't be much more then $11 for a close match to your paint _________________

i aggree. there are several whiter patches on my 2.8 where i have sanded rust off and re-painted small sections with semi-gloss rustoleum paint and primer. and my girlfriend likes my car(s).
if you do any painting mask carefully. we were (and when i see we i mean i watched) touching up a members car at cows and we masked, painted and when we pulled off the masking tape it took more paint with it. . use that blue painters tape. it costs more but you will be glad you did. if you have to use regular masking tape, stick it to your pants first, then to the car. the lint it picks up will allow it to come off easy. |

Second the thing about the blue tape. Never EVER use regular masking tape for anything. It's crap.
You also have to use the old 45* angle trick, and work VERY slowly if you want it to come out right at all.
On that car, I would go to your local auto store (I know my local Baxter's will get a color code match by year and vehicle type) and get some paint. Pick up some of the grey Rustoleum primer, or the brown stuff if you have serious rust, and use that first. Go thin though, that stuff can get messy. I wouldn't mask it, since the paint is so worn, but it's up to you. |

also be sure to sand ALL rust off first. painting over rust is a bad idea. i use 220 to prep my car. paint always seems to stick prety well. better then the old crap that is for sure.
also good point ASDF, with color matched paint you would not mask as much. i am using over-the-counter white and it is NOT the same color as the rest of my car. of course i am also painting in small 4"X4" or smaller sections. from a few feet back you can't even tell |

I always at least ask if they can match it for me. Otherwise it always ends up looking like a redneck crap job.
If you cannot remove the rust via sanding, but the car isn't worth restoring the panels, you can buff the hell out of it, and use the brown Rustoleum primer. It will slow down the rust... even on a Mopar. |

I think i'm at around $3500 for mine right now.
But it is going to get more expensive as time goes by I can assure you. But seriously dude, paint those patches like tony said, and maybe try washing it. Its amazing how much better a car looks when its all one color.

Trust me, I know it all to well. I learned to spin wrenches as a kid working on the old slant-6 Mopars my Dad had cluttering up his driveway. Once I got ahold of my first Chevy I haven't looked back.

BTW, Danked, what's up with the mounting your cruise control vacuum deal? Are the V6 ones up way higher like on the Firebirds? |

I think all the v6 cruise control things are up there, i never seen it anywhere else. The 2.8's are that high also. But what i'm gonna do is get new fenders, they're both smashed, and a new passenger door w/ power motor in it. Junk yard guy selling it to me for maybe $20, for all this. See if hes got any front gfx, mines destroyed. Damn curbs. Haha, why don't we all just meet up somewhere and spraypaint each others cars? looks like we all need it. _________________ Towed amaro, 2nd engine blown spent $1500 not spending more. That's where the one on my V6 is too. Almost looks to be part of the windshield washer reservior. |

Hmm... I guess I'm just used to mine, way down by the vacuum can.
I just noticed something else... what's all that red wire running down the door jamb? |

look at the engine bay shot, it comes out in the engine bay... you know, there are alot of holes in the firewall those wires could run through.
as far as the CC goes i think it looks alot better intergrated into the bottle. takes the focus of of it. both of my firebirds are this way. |
