First broken axle on the left. Last night's carniage on the right.
Same side (drivers)
Wish I would have known they were so cheap before, but Moser makes axles for our 7.5" 10bolt for $240 for the pair.
Debating if I should throw gears in it at the same time.
And people who say the MT ET Radial's aren't sticky can kiss my butt. I've seen full slicks at drags not pick up rocks as much as these do! |

Upon closer inspection the pinion is shot too. Intact but I see cracks and one of the teeth at the crack has a 1/64 stairstep.
So...$400 for axles/gears (4:10s are 10pinion41ring, 3:73 are 11pinion41ring)
Have 3:73 now... so take a chance and the 4:10s weaker and break, or the 3:73 I have now broke because of the axle?
Guess maybe I should cut my losses, sell the good parts I have, and get the 12 bolt. |

Driveline and Ujoints are good. Trans is good to the power. Weak link will be lack of power if I got 12 bolt. |

That sucks paul.
prolly worth the investment in the long run to get the 12 bolt now. Then your car only has to be down until you get that in, instead of potentially being down later if you went with steeper gears and new axles (I.e. Those might not hold up to the hardcore-ness of your HSR 355.)
I think you've successfully proved before Shultzy how crappy these stock rears are (although he has a 9 bolt, but I wouldn't imagine is THAT much stronger). _________________

Start calling you the Ol' Axle Snapper.
Or, was your pinion preload too tight?

if you looking to go aftermarket, check out quick perfomance there on ebay they make there own housing and sell moser. the g body guys love them, but they will sell a f body 9in ford housing with moser axles anyspline for 875 then all you have to do is come up with a thirdmember not to hard to do if you look around, and some rear disks off a explorer will bolt right on. this is the way im going, just a idea.

Looks to me like it was on it's way to failure but the axle just barely edged it out.

| I dunno man, I hear people claim that all the time on f-body forums, but I've never seen any testing on it. |
