my cruise control does not work.
i am trying to fix it and so far have ruled out the selenoid (it draws and holds vacuume), the throttle linkage from selenoid to throttle body, vacuume feed line/orb of power (vacuume present at selenoid), and the brake vacuume release switch.
i think i have narowed it down to electrical. when bridged electrically (as if the signal had come from the control module to accelerate and hold) it draws and holds vaccume which causes the engine to increase throttle.
anyone know how to diagnose it from here? i know several of you have working cruise control. i figure most of them have broken at one point or another. thanks for the help in advance.
EDIT* a 30 minute search on TGO has not yet let me know where the cruise control fuse is. that realy needs to be the next thing i check. none of the fuses in my fuse pannel are labled "cruise control" so i have no clue where it is. i know there is a secondary fuse pannel under the driverside kick pannel, i supose i will check there tomorow... _________________ 86' firebird (Junked in 2015). 88' GTA (sold in 2020).

I have a friend (installer) at a car audio shop that also does cruise, a/c, and almost everything else. Won't be until Saturday that I can talk him. I might be able to dig through some electrical manuals they have. That's how we found the wires/connectors to do my instument panel. He did most of my custom electrical work (for warranty only I'm perfectly capable of doing it myself, thankyou ) |

| I don't have the table here at home. But you really need to test the cruise control switch. The wires that run up the column have a habit of getting broke/cut. Take a careful look at where they enter the column, you may see them broken there. This and vacuum leaks are the most common things to go wrong with them. I've had to replace my cruise control stalk twice in the 200k miles we've put on the formula since 91. |

| i was wondering why an electrical engineer would have an installer. it would be great if you could get me info. my service manual has diagrams but it does not tell you where alot of stuff is. |

Tony, I am not, nor have I ever been an engineer I am a technician. I fix broken stuff, I don't design it
I only use his services for the warranty (lifetime on install work), if wiring goes bad, he fixes it free of charge. I do get my hands on the install/fix with him on occasion. Have also used an install bay on occasion to do my own work. |

oh, i think you ahve told me that before. makes sense, why screw with it if it has a warantee
RJ thanks, well i know my guage cluster fuse is working so i guess i can rule that out. those stalks are like 15$ at napa/vatozone/schmucks right? mine has all the lettering worn off. might as well replace it for astetic reasons, and worry about it being the problem later. who knows, might solve the problem. i'll go pick one of those up tomorow. thanks |

| Make sure you get the right one Tony. They make 2 that look exactly the same but the switches work differently. I installed the wrong one once.. cruise on = accelerate. Was kinda fun.. warp speed! |

| That schematic is almost the same as the one we used to interface the "cruise on" indication on my Dakota Digital instrument panel. With your digital dash, I imagine yours would be similar, unless the instrument panel itself has a buffer. Probobly not where your problem lies anyway - most likely in the stalk. |

| LOL! I thought you were guessing a bit low. I thought the last one I bought was about $65. Guess my memory isn't as bad as i think. What you don't want to do is break the wiper switch. Last time I changed the stalk.. i forgot to turn the wipers off before pulling it out. This broke the wiper switch, which at the time wasnt available aftermarket, and gm had discontinued it. I bought the last one at $128. |

see tony, this is why I take all the power options OUT of my car.
crank windows will never blow a motor, or lose connection...
Power hatch? What? I'm suprised that was an option...
cruise control? Isn't that what you do with your right foot?
power door locks........nah, I prefer to reach across...it's like my yoga...
Air Conditioning?........only the spanish kind...
my brand spankin new turnsignal arm with wiper delay was only $23 at a GM dealership..

Why the heck? Cruise is for lazy people. I have never used it in any car I have ever driven, and I disabled it in my Camaro just because I occasionally will bump the switch and turn it on by mistake. |
