|
|
i was running the RCA component cable for my amp today (it has been running above the carpet since i got the car) through the interior and when i pulled the passanger lower dash pannel i found coolant on the foam. fresh wet warm coolant. pulled a few of the screws out of the heaterbox and discovered a few dropes in the box as well. all in all this was about a cap full (think soda bottle cap). i stopped by napa and got a new core, 3 feet of hose for each side of the core (one side is bigger then the other ) and some hose clamps all for the bargain price of 34$.
i have done this once before on my sisters 89 2.8L bird.. it was prety easy. anything i need to watch out for on the V8s ? the only problem i had last time was getting the plastic piece inside the heaterbox (that holds the core in) out, i cracked it last time.
if the weather is nice tomorow i will do it. anyone want to help? i'll buy you lunch _________________ 86' firebird (Junked in 2015). 88' GTA (sold in 2020).

right on. i'll probably wake up around 11 am tomorow. should i give you a call when i get up? will you need a ride or do you want to drive yourself out here?
the unfortunate thing is i have to drive to my dads to do the work, i should have left my GTA there and borrowed his truck, now it's going to be hot when we start working on it . we could always go for food first and give the car time to cool. |

Guess that Heater core was a little more trouble than either of us bargained for...and then then our little "racing" thing we got nailed for...
I'll see if I can get insurance figured out for the 85 and the fairlane.
Gimmie a call this week, tony. _________________

| cool. yea, we broke those damn vaccume lines to the HVAC control unit, had to pull the dash and the entire heater box to replace the damn things... my next car is going to be a formula for sure. and i am going to strip ALL the options out of it except power windows. |

| My old formy had every option except for power mirrors. Even the "deluxe" interior option with the formed nifty door panels. |

about the only option you could not get on a formula were GFX, digital dash, electric HVAC. pretty lame since they were suposed to be the stripped down "tactical fighter designed to go head to head with the mustang and 280Z"... the only options i would want in it were heat and power windows and door locks, remote hatch release. no radio, no ac, no cargo cover, no speakers, no antenna, no cruise control, no power seats, no roof console. i am also not set on the power window, locks and hatch release thing. it would just be nice.
for more information on thirdgen formulas go to www.3rdgenformula.com, or visit your local library |

You mean the 300zx. The 280z stopped in 78 when they went to the larger bodystyle ZX with power options and then to the 300zx in 84 I believe. _________________

| IIRC the 280Z was a holdover model from Datsun. When Nissan came into the picture, they upgraded to the ZX. |

| I just thought it funny which options you want and don't. I'd much rather have a/c then power windows. I've added remote power locks which is nice. No idea why anybody would want power mirrors, my mirror has a remote control as it is. I do have power hatch, stereo with the subwoofer option and it had the cargo cover before it broke. But no rear defrost which would have been nice around here. My car is a Norwood car and its originally from Texas, so it was optioned a bit differently then people around here would have. |

I must be crazy then. I want all the power options, but not the AC. Around here it never gets above 90*, and the damn tops come off any time the weather is above 60* anyhow.... |
