Hey guys, need some gear head help here.

My father's 56 210 del rey is suffering from 4.11 rear end problems, as in, the th350 just isn't a highway combo.

So, we have a 700r4 truck tranny that were going to get rebuilt, but we are curious as to modifications to the drive shaft and such?

The motor is a crate 350, if that matters. Let me know if there is info I am missing to get this question answered.

Thank you guys! And here is hoping summer gets its ass here quick. Cool

Is it a 6" or 9" tailshaft on the TH350 in the car now? If it is a 9" tail then the 700R4 should be the same length, unless the pickup trannies were differant than the car ones. I think they also have the same outout splines.

Rodney is right. If it's a long shaft TH350 then the driveline will still work. You'll need to fabricate or find a place that builds a crossmember for that vehicle and 700R4.

Same output splines.

You'll need a different shifter of sorts unless it can be converted.

Crossmember will probably work. Most old cars you can slide the crossmember back and forth to match the tranny combination they used. Interesting thing on those old ones, manual tranny's didnt have a tranny crossmember. There were 2 more mounts on the bellhousing and the tranny just hung out back there.

If the th350 isnt the long shaft then you'll either have to shorten the driveline or use a th200 4r instead. the 200 4r is the same length as most th350s.

kind of an unrelated question, but isn't there a difference between 1-2 gears on the 700R4 and the 200R4? Seemed to me the 700 have more agressive (higher numerically) gears than the 200.

TH-2004R (1)2.74 (2)1.57 (3)1.00 (OD)0.67

TH-700R4 (1)3.06 (2)1.62 (3)1.00 (OD)0.70

NVM, answered my own question. Hope that little detail proves useful.

200R4 is similar to the TH350 which is like a 2.52 or 2.75 not sure which one is more common.

Thank you all guys for the info.

MOST helpful. I will look up the measurements for which type of th350 it is and the crossmember stuff.

I just can't wait to start racing against his toys... Smile
