Wait, a real engineer would have done the entire fuse box layout in autocad and ran it through several simulations to verify. Before building anything, you should have plenty of confidence in the outcome. :p |

Tires showed up and one had a big huge tack driven through it. I don't remember selecting the "flat tire" factory option.
Discount Tire took care of it immediately and is sending out a new tire without even getting the old one back. |

Discount Tire has always done well by me. I bought my current tires from them. |

Anybody know how to remove the manual trans gear pattern inlay in the center console? I know the housing for the light bulb needs to come out but I'll be darned if I can figure it out (without breaking anything). |

I figured it out. It was glued on, and mighty well I might add. Finally got it popped off and put in a 6 speed shift pattern inlay. |

Hooked up power to underhood fuse center and nothing popped, smoked, or burned. That's promising!
Next step is to get a solid power source for the engine ECM and wake it up for the first time. |

Got the ECM powered and updated the firmware. Had readings from sensors until I plugged in the O2 sensor and now nothing is giving me a reading.
Totally at a loss of cause right now. |

Reloaded all the software and firmware and now it is working.
Gentlemen.... I could start the engine today if I really wanted to.
I'm going to hold myself back and finish making proper battery cables. |

Gosh darn it! Just when I was feeling good about progress....
So I cranked the engine today and I don't get a speed signal. Looked closer at the engine and I think that I have 58x speed sensors, not the 24x that I told the engine builder to use. If that really is the case, then the engine harness has to come out to be reworked. And it probably ruined the sensors too. |

58x cam sensors are fancy new stuff for the late-model gen 4.
Jon, what color is the crank sensor? Do you have the cam sensor up on the rear where the distributor would have been on an old Chevy?
FWIW they are theoretically a better design, so if you're forced to change it will at least be an upgrade. |

Or you could always use a converter box if that is the case but there is mixed reviews on them. _________________

Yeah, I've also heard the claims of them crapping out randomly, and having owned a Ford with a TFI module I can tell you that it's not the greatest place to save a buck. |

Back in business! Apparently I had a 4x cam sensor in a 24x system. It is normally a 1x cam sensor, or something like that. All I know is I swapped the cam sensor outer wires (tan and red) and I got engine speed.
I have a temporary power distribution set up that is kind of dangerous, but I could literally start this engine if I put fuel in the tank. I can hear the trans jumping around on the crossmember because it can't be bolted in yet, but I'm just kind of curious what that bad little boy sounds like. I wonder if I could just zip tie the hell out of the trans tail for first start up. |

Ya, I'm worse than that right now. I've got live battery connections wrapped in towels on the front bumper tray, and cables hanging loose in front of engine.
I've done a fair share of cranks the last two days, only a few seconds at a time. I pulled the valve cover and the head is bone dry. I'm thinking I need to do the pressurized oil fill procedure. That requires some disassembly of the FEAD to get to the oil port. And I need to borrow the filling device from a co-worker. |

Several cranking sessions of a few seconds each won't be enough to prime the oil system to the heads. If the engine has assembly lube on the bearing surfaces, just go to town. You need a solid 30-90 seconds of full-speed cranking to get the oil system flowing. Zip tie the trans crossmember down. Start it and idle it after it is primed.
That's what I'd do, but I'm just some guy out in the woods who hasn't broken anything yet. Taking apart the FEAD and using the special tool is altogether too complicated for me. _________________ 84 Camaro Z28 - LS1/T56
