ok guys im stumped. i never really paid attention to this until now... on the back of heater controls all the colored lines, the gray and purple split off and have a connection where they go to the firewall and purple goes to vacuum ball/vacuum source and gray goes out to heater control valve... what if i dont have the control valve or the vacuum ball what do i do? this makes me think to because im doing this for the 83 lsx..but my 91 doesnt have the ball or control valve either....any insight??

Both lines can be capped.

Do you have cruise on either car?

And you must have the check valve or the vacuum ball will be useless.

Yup.

Actually you need a check valve of some kind in the HVAC line with or without the reservoir to prevent the doors from reverting to default positions under throttle.

Purple line needs to see manifold vacuum to shift the doors, and a check valve to keep them in place.

GM used the same check valve on every single vehicles for over two decades, just grab a couple at the yard. It's the cone-shaped three-way thing near the firewall.

The vacuum reservoir is for cruise control. GM did not use it for the solenoids like Ford did.

ok so cap the gray one, purple to check valve and then to manifold easy enough!

now i gotta go look at the 91 tomorrow to see what the heck i did with that setup lol

as you might have been able to guess the 90's style dash swap is in progress in the 83
