I had an 87 firebird project that I bought non-running, got it home, got it running, fixed the dash lights and every little thing that I could. Then I found a guy with this who wanted trade!

Nothing that a $400 Maaco job couldn't fix.

You should trade me a wrecked 86 camaro for that.
I always thought the grill on the 67/68 looked the best on that era of truck. |

| Haha ian thanks for seeing the potential. It is a 68 3/4 ton 2WD with coil springs front and rear. No power steering or brakes. I knew it had a TH400 trans and I just found out it has a 400 small block between the fenders. The previous owner told me it was a crate 350. |

Haha yeah Ian would feel like he's in hell driving this heavy thing with 4 wheel drum and no power assist but hey it stops.
Id like to add a few things like dual exhaust, 4bbl carb and intake, HEI dizzy and power brakes but first things first, I REALLY need to fix the gas gauge, its stuck at the quarter tank mark and hasn't moved. Lol

| If you need parts ask here first. I still have quite a few things around. I've got a disc front suspension for a 1/2 ton if you want to convert. Finally sent my 3/4 ton disc setup to the scrapper. Got a couple 68 grilles, a 67 cab.. various stuff. |

Um, that fuel gauge is not at 1/4 tank, it reads ABOVE full. There's a break in the wiring. Had that same issue with my '85 Camaro. _________________ Richmond 3.73 posi| 36/24 sway bars | SLP LM2 | Koni's | Ground Control 800/200 | Y2K wheels | Dyno Don headers & Y-pipe | airfoil | BBK underdrive pulleys | Raised strut mounts | Extended ball joints | LCARB'S

Unless you score an HEI I'd just do a points conversion. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

This thing has three tanks dude, its reading on the passenger side tank. That's what all the other hash marks on the gauge are for. |

| Ran the 330817 casting number on google and everything says its a 2 bolt main high nickel '73-'80 400 block! And yes I may be needing some parts lol. The best thing about it is there is nothing but surface rust. Looks like I will score an HEI from a friend, does anyone have any old chevy hub caps? There's only one left on it. Lol |

Hmm mine had 3 tanks and a valve by the drivers side of the bench to switch. But it certainly did NOT have 3 different sending units. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

No, Skyler's right. Those other hash marks mean nothing. Usually on this vintage of pickup the gauge doesnt even work for any tank other then the cab tank. The valve is only a mechanical fuel valve.
I have only one tank yet have those marks as well. |

| Whats the difference between going to HEI, VS getting like a pertronix module and coil? (price wise, I mean) I used to have a 72 C-10 (which my buddy Rob still has), and that's what I did, rather than doing the coil-in-cap HEI. |

I bought a chinese hei, complete with coil, and a wire set on ebay. Expensive part was the wire set Accell 300+ stuff.. total came out to about $75.
So far the hei has worked fine for me. Just remember if you switch to hei you'll need the plug wires because the ends are different. Also you need to remove the factory resistor wire. It runs from the firewall to the coil. Just remove it from teh firewall plug and use a 12 gauge wire instead. |

Derrick, whatever you do don't paint it, patina rocks.
If you're not switching an aftermarket electric switch to change thank then you're not changing the gas gauge sender. That didn't come around til the early 80's. All those old trucks were hand-cranked under the bench seat as previously mentioned.
It would be simpler to take off the lone hubcap. I gave up trying to keep hubcaps on a truck that is used as a truck.
Chris, go HEI if you can. Even the Ford guys go HEI with Davis. Pertronix will fail and it can't be replaced at any local parts house like an HEI. |
