Hey guys, i've been battling a oil leak on the front of the motor ever since the LT1 swap. I first thought it was the oil pan gasket, and replaced it last weekend. Second, i thought it was the water pump drive or the opti seals. I replaced those last night and i'm still dumping oil...
I pulled the crank hub to replace that seal and found 2 small grooves on the hub. I tried to smooth them out a little but with some emery cloth and replaced the seal but it is still pouring oil out when rpm's rise.
I am now faced with 2 choices, either replace the entire hub or just get a repair sleeve. Has anyone used these before? since i can get a repair sleeve for about 10 bucks i'm leaning towards getting one and trying it out but if its just a band-aid fix for a month before i start leaking again i'll save the time and money.

| Repair sleeve is a permanent fix if the rest of the hub is in good shape. |

I would say it would depend on how big the grove is in the hub. If its just a little bit, the sleeve should fix it.
If its a big grove, time for a new hub.
I would try sliding a sleeve on that hub before you put it together and see if it fixes it. |

| Why would the size of the groove make any difference at all? The sleeve completely covers it. |

I guess I'm thinking about a different part?
I'm thinking hes calling his crank harmonic balancer a "hub"? |

This. Sold many of those at the dealer and never had any comebacks. _________________

| Thats what i'm thinking too. The groove a seal will cut into the hub no matter how deep wont affect structural strength. So putting a stainless sleeve over it should be a permanent repair. |

sounds like a plan, as long as it doesn't start leaking between the sleeve and the hub. I'm going to try one out tomorrow after work.

| There should be a tube of loctite sleeve retainer to keep that from happening. Besides that.. they fit tight. |
