I'm looking to use my Summit gift card toward a new fuel pump to feed my 383. Most I've looked at "fit TPI motors." Aside from the pressure output, what is the difference between the TBI and TPI pumps?

Volume.

TPI pumps are used as tbi upgrades.

Mounting identical.

The tbi regulator is pretty good. It can handle a stock TPI pump without being over run.

Something like a walbro high pressure pump, it might not be able to control pressure.

That's what I wanted to hear. I am looking at the Walbro. I also intend to replace the regulator with a variable piece but haven't decided if I want to use a block off plate and use external or to go with stock looking internal regulator.

I'm running a walboro high flow pump, pressure reg hasnt failed me yet and its been about 6 months

They don't fail, they can be overrun. Meaning the pump puts out so much volume, a 12psi regulator... sometimes you can see 14-15psi. Of course I haven't seen it with TBI just something to be aware of is all.

Ah that makes sense, the car has smelled slightly rich since I did the pump, if I hammer on it once I release the throttle I can smell excess fuel under the hood, not enough to cause issues just a smell
