So I swear I have an exuast leak, or at least I hope thats the aound I hear. Anyways its either where the manifokd bokts to the head, where the hwad has no hole for the manifold. Or where it connects to y pipe. Which area woukd be easist tovtry and fix first and is there anyway to even fix where it doesnt bolt to head. Its passenger side. Stock manifold, older 882 heads.

Have a drink at 9:30am? Hahaha. I would check the collector bolts. And feel for leaks around the header gasket. If I read your post right, you're saying you have an exhaust leak coming from the intake manifold. Right?

Yes from manifold. But let me back a bit. I have 68 327 block, prob early 80s heads andvand stock exuast manifold. for whatever reason the paseenger side has an elongated flange with the hole landing outside my heads. Seems to be a comman problem for us who have an engine swap but stock exhuast. So I naturally assume I have a leak there. What I am curious about is, is there a gasket fix? I dont know qith todays gasket technology is there is one that woukd expand enough to seal the gap. Then I supposes I can focus to see If perhaps it is a donut gasket on the other side of the manifold. Which looks like it is a pain. So next question is would it be the easiest just to take manifold off and do the gasketa that way instead of trying to loosen one side at a time .

You must have all 6 bolts installed or it will leak. Some heads have two holes for the different.type of manifold bolt pattern. If you have a miss matched exhorting manifold to head you need to change one.or the other.

Is there a certain year where that changes. I am assuming heads I have are before that andvthe stock heads obviously was after.

I don't recall that's it's year specific.

Most 327 engines cylinder heads didn't have accessory holes on the front like later SBC gen I heads. The pre 87 but with accessory hole should have the dual bolt holes in the heads. Like 416s

If you don't have all 6 bolts you'll blow a gasket real quick. My headers I believe are warped and were blowing gaskets left and right. But I found these gaskets called Remflex that are super thick and crush down to fill in gaps. A little more expensive than conventional gaskets, but work better. They make gaskets for a lot of other stuff too like collector gaskets. Look in a Jegs magazine or online they have other brands that crush to fill gaps.

Remflex gaskets wont help if there is no clamping force because a bolt is missing.

Ya. I just got to look for different heads. I have 350 heads on now, and they have all the accy holes, but no extra hole for stock manifold.

I can't rember for sure but the most modern sbc heads have 3 holes on one side and either 2 or 3 on the other.

If you have just one, you've got an old or inbetween style.

Quickest cheapest fix that works both ways is to put on a set of headers.

I had a set of heads on my 327 that did not have the extra exhaust bolt hole that 3d gens use, but did have accessory holes. One of the reasons I went headers.. the other was the dipstick being on the drivers side.
