I decided since it was dry that I would wash up the 'bird and wash off the engine bay at work, so I get it all cleaned up and go to start it and it just ran rough at idle, then stumbled and popped when I tried to hold it at 2K RPM. then when I moved it, it backfired, died and wouldn't start back up.
After about 10 minutes of cussing I decided to pop the dizzy cap off and found lots of corrosion, and the coil post was burnt on my MSD cap that is roughly a year old.
Luckly I work at Carr Chevy and the parts dept. was open for another 10 minutes and I was able to throw a new cap and rotor on and its driven great ever since, but I can't figure out what caused that, any ideas? _________________

| Pacific northwest moisture. For years I had an Astro van that would be towed in once a year.. replace cap and away it went again. Some aftermarket caps have instructions with them to knock the vent screens out of the distributor. I don't think thats really the answer either. Only the small cap hei's seem to do this. Aluminum caps seem to be worse. |

Every car I've owned that had a small cap with male contacts has gone to s**t fast. The worst was my Turd-a-bird with the 3.8. Tiny little dizzy and the cap would need to be replaced once or twice a year.
Big cap HEI fine, small cap with old-school female sockets also did fine.
Time for coilpacks. |

| I know my MSD pro billet looked like it was in salt water two years after installing it. I cleaned the cap every spring and was shocked every time with the amount of crap on the posts / rotor. My car is rarely driven and is garaged. |
