The story I heard was that the state is limiting how many exemptions a shop can give, so they're all afraid to do it now. I have never had a car fail to pass once properly tuned and/or running on Ethanol, so I have never looked in to an exemption that closely. |

It would be good to get rid of it...biggest waste of money that just gives shops a reason to rip people off. Before I knew much about it, a local shop basically charged me 200 bucks to replace a thermostat that wasn't even broken. And the car still failed. (Actually did better on its first test than after the shop got ahold of it.) _________________

Well 200 bucks for a T-stat is a rip-off for sure, but all you needed was 150 in repairs then they can give you a waiver if it still failed. I suspect they didn't do that though did they?
Anyway, they are going to phase out the emissions, don't know what that will look like in practice though, probably be the newest cars that will be exempt first then the older ones. They say it is because the program worked, better fuels, better fuel mileage, better emissions equipment on cars, and fewer and fewer cars being taken off the road due to emissions means that even the state thinks it's a waste. _________________ Killing mailboxes since 2009 |

The shop was sure to throw in some incidentals for the extra 50 bucks. But I lived and learned. _________________
