I have a electric fan switch set up that I'd like to install in the 85. I do not want to jam the sensor into the radiator and i happen to still have a temp sensor installed in the intake manifold and was wondering since it's just two wires if it matters which way I wire it up for the sensor to register. I'm sure it's not the best way to do it, but I'll be keeping the toggle switch too for back up. _________________

If it's the switch in the manifold then it will not work since that is a resistor (used to send a varying signal to the ECM).
What you need is a thermal switch. You can buy them from Summit or an auto parts store. They make a wide variety of temperatures and threads. They have only one wire and ground to the block. |

Darn...there goes that plan...is the temp sensor in the block a thermal sensor? I just don't think the sensor on this setup is reliable for there the instructions want me to place it. _________________

Is it an adjustable style that they tell you to put in the rad hose?
If so you can wedge it next to one of the cross overs of the radiator between the fins. Then just adjust it to the temp you want. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

it is, but the idea of jamming it into the radiator fins does not appeal to me...probably why i've had this thing for a few years and have done nothing with it. _________________

I'd run it.
Or if you're worried about it just buy a switch and wire it into the kit. It's a dumb animal, the switch just grounds out the system. |

Doesn't hurt a thing.
Aftermarket Transmission Oil Coolers run zip ties THROUGH the fins to secure the cooler. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

Yup. I had one of those on my '85 Z28. My '91 RS had the temp sensor attached to the rad hose. It had a rheostat wired to it which allowed me to set the temp I wanted the fan to come on at. _________________ '86 Trans Am - 5.0L TPI - LT1 cam - 700R4 - WS6
