Did my right door today, wasn't too bad. I've read stories on TGO where they said it was a royal pain, but mine wasn't too difficult at all. Got new GM sweeps for $24.60 each, which is cheaper than the knock off's sold on Ebay. The dealer wanted $50 each for them locally.
Luckily I had small sheet metal screws holding my sweeps in and not rivets, and they came off pretty easy. You have to roll the window all the way down, and remove the front window track to get at the front screw. Had to redrill two holes in the door for the mounting screws, but wasn't too bad. The biggest problem I saw was when my window went all the way down,, it tucked uner the outer sweep and tried to rip it off when I rolled it up. Turns out there is a rubber bumper that hits the bottom of the door and keeps the window from going down too far that had came off . I went to True Value and got some rubber feet and two 10x24 button head allen screws, and two nylock nuts. Was kind of a pain to drill out the rivet holding the old bump stop mount on, but no big deal.
This was definatley worth the time and trouble. My left door has water in the bottom of it, so this is what made me decide to do this. Cost about $65 total with shipping and the bump stops I bought. Took about 1 hour for the right side, should go faster for the left now that I know how to do it.
Now I wish there was an alternative to the $157 inside sweeps for our cars

Get the little furniture bumpers before you start this project. Both of mine were gone. They were 3/4" in diameter and about 1/2" tall, cost about $1.50. You will definately need them. But do the sweeps first before putting the new bump stops on. Without the new bump stops it lets the window go down further so you can get at the screws easier on the sweeps. I tried taking pics of where the stops go, but the pics didn't come out, and the car is back together now. You can easily see where they are........on the back window track. A litttle right angle bracket at the bottom that hits the bottom of the door when the window is rolled down all the way.

These are the long pieces that ride the window on the outside?
Then there are inside ones... plus the 2 bolt down ones on the very inside of the door?
Am I correct?
I need 1 outside one ! :OP |

Yes they are the long outer parts that seals the water out and wipes the outer window off. The inner felt giudes are also available, along with the mega $$$ inner sweeps. The inners sweeps come with the top plastic door trim part, that's why they are so expensive. My felt guides even after 20 years are in great condition and didn't need replacing.
www.gmpartsdirect.com was the cheapest I could find for these. Took about a week to get them though. They arrived in perfect condition.
Here is a pic of the bumpers I used.
